Position Summary
KONETA is seeking an experienced, result oriented and passionate Peanut Butter Production Assistant to support the entire peanut butter production cycle while also contributing to community nutrition activities. The role combines hands-on food processing, volunteer management, quality assurance, and nutrition outreach, using latest local innovations, appropriate technologies, and community-based skills.
The successful candidate must be practical, organized, results-oriented, and committed to improving nutrition outcomes at both production and community levels.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Receiving and Sorting of Groundnuts
- Receive groundnuts from farmers, suppliers, and community groups.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure peanuts are clean, dry, and free from mold or contaminants.
- Ensure peanuts are sorted and graded to; remove damaged or aflatoxin-prone nuts.
- Ensure proper storage using locally appropriate and innovative methods.
2. Roasting Operations
- Monitor the operation and roasting equipment (traditional or improved local roasters).
- Apply correct roasting temperatures and timing for food safety, taste, and nutrition.
- Maintain consistency across batches and minimize losses.
3. Grinding and Processing
- Ensure peanut grinding machines safely and hygienically maintained.
- Monitor texture, oil balance, and consistency of peanut butter to ensure that its suitable for children 6–23 months.
- Apply innovative local techniques to improve efficiency and reduce wastage.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained after use.
4. Packaging and Labeling
- Package peanut butter according to KONETA quality and hygiene standards.
- Ensure proper sealing, labeling, batch coding, and storage.
- Maintain a clean production environment at all times.
5. Distribution and Stock Management
- Prepare finished products for storage, transport, and distribution.
- Support distribution to nutrition programs, community outlets.
- Maintain simple production, stock, and distribution records.
6. Volunteer Supervision and Management
- Organize, guide, and supervise community volunteers involved in production.
- Assign tasks clearly across the production chain.
- Train volunteers on hygiene, safety, production steps, and teamwork.
- Promote dignity, accountability, and teamwork during all activities.
7. Community Nutrition Activities
- Support implementation of community nutrition activities linked to peanut butter production and use.
- Assist in nutrition education sessions on: maternal infant and Young child Nutrition (MIYCN), Dietary diversity and use of peanut butter in improving children diets.
- Demonstrate safe preparation and appropriate use of peanut butter for children and vulnerable groups.
- Support community sensitization on food hygiene, storage, and nutrition.
- Collect basic nutrition and production-related data and report to supervisors.
- Work closely with community leaders, caregivers, and volunteers to promote nutrition behavior change.
- Support integration of locally produced peanut butter into community nutrition interventions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Nutrition, Food Processing, or related field.
- Practical experience in food production or community nutrition not less than 2 years will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of the full peanut butter production cycle.
- Experience working with community volunteers.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene, safety, and quality control.
- Ability to apply and adapt local innovative skills and technologies.
- Must be physically fit and ready for medical checkup.

- Fluency in English; local languages (e.g. Local Arabic, Bari and any other language spoken in Yei) is strongly advantageous.
