POSITION OVERVIEW
The Food Security and Livelihood Assistant under direct supervision will perform variety of specialized technical tasks in the field of Agronomy, peanut and peanut butter production and distribution. S/he will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring livelihood activities by providing technical and practical support to beneficiaries through trainings, experiment, setting demonstration gardens, developing production methods to improve household food production. The Food Security and Livelihood Assistant will ensure integration of all activities into nutrition.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the implementation for the food security and livelihood activities and ensure all are implemented in a timely manner according to the required standards.
- Develop innovative and implementation plan for FSL activities within the assigned location (Payam and Boma) through setting demonstration garden according to standard and ensure all is replicated by target beneficiaries.
- Identify community needs, understand the natural resources and suggest appropriate potential solutions.
- Lead the peanut butter production, branding and distribution with close collaboration with the nutrition team in line with the set criteria.
- Take active role in FSL related case of any emergency with support of the line manager.
- Work closely with Nutrition team to ensure all FSL and Nutrition activities are carried out as planned.
- Participate in the implementation of the FSL and Nutrition program and materials based on the project deliverables.
- Mobilize, sensitize & support in the registration of beneficiaries for FSL, WASH & Nutrition activities.
- Support beneficiaries in the establishment of homesteads gardens including pest & disease control.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and ensure they align with the organization’s objectives.
- Conduct nutrition education and awareness campaigns to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes. More especially among the children and pregnant women.
- Collaborate with other sectors, including health, education, and agriculture, to enhance the integration of nutrition interventions.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in nutrition and integrate these into program design and delivery.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned since the duties above are not fixed and exhaustive.
ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
- Report once a week on previous set activities and objectives & monthly monitoring reports to the program officer.
- Identify household nutrition related challenges & potential solutions appropriate to the program.
- Discuss program progress on a regular basis, set with communities at the field and report accordingly.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Diploma or Certificate in General Agriculture, Agribusiness or related field from a recognized institute.
- Experience in implementing a project on IMAM with emphasis on Community Based Supplementary Programs and Maternal Child Health Program is an added advantage.
- Riding capabilities with valid riding permit is an added advantage.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Minimum of 1-year experience in related field with busy organization.
- Strong communication skills both written and oral.
- Computer literate person with knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and software use like ENA, SPSS plus other programs is advantageous.
- Flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations and able to perform effective and efficient work under minimum supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the local language Local Arabic, Kakwa and any other major language in Yei is an added advantage.
- Diplomatic and culturally sensitive and able to work in a community with diverse cultures.
- Experience in conducting nutrition assessments, surveys, reporting and data analysis.
- Knowledge of nutrition-related policies and guidelines at the national or international level and familiarity with international and national humanitarian operations, coordination systems and mandates of donors (UN agency and other NGO).
